Storm Damage Property Tax Relief

Damaged Property Tax Relief from Weekend Storm

Many Ashtabula County residents have been impacted by wind damage from March 13-15th. Damage to buildings could result in temporary relief in property taxes through the County Auditor’s Office shared Auditor Scott Yamamoto.

“If significant building damage prevents the building from being used/occupied for an extended period of time (more than a month), please contact our office to speak with staff and learn what options are legally available to you for relief,” explained Auditor Yamamoto. Owners may also retrieve the Valuation Deduction for Damaged or Destroyed Property form from our website under Real Estate/Forms.  The deadline to file is December 31, 2026.  Property damage can be investigated by County Auditor staff and a change in property values may be granted while repairs are being made on the property.

This relief is available to all types of property and any damage which may influence market value. To learn more, residents are encouraged to visit the County Auditor’s website  or call 440-576-3749 to apply or learn more.
